I first met Trevor Hills when he was in charge of the Music Shop in Ashford and he had a little studio above it where he created his amazing sounds. The most striking thing about Trevor to me was his total modesty. He could play anything in any key, key-boards, guitar, bass...anything. In fact he was one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever worked with, yet you would have never heard that from him. Trevor was totally unassuming and patient with those less talented than himself and he could come up with a brilliant guitar solo in one take in the studio and leave everyone speechless. The truth was he made us all look good and he didn’t take any credit for himself; he was a real talent.
Ok ...so the challenge was this, write a song with twenty seven to eight year olds, learn it and then perform it as the grand finale to celebrate six weeks of the Wriggle-room Writers project coming into a school to stimulate the children’s creative writing. Did I mention that this was to be done in a forty-five minute session??
It was great to take part in the panel for the Inaugural M.I.M.S. (MUSIC INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT SOCIETY ‘Women in Music’ Intercollegiate Conference on Tuesday 18 October at University of West London.
I can do magic... it’s true ... really I can. And if you are reading this---so can you. All you have to do is identify the magic formula, carry out the instructions, sprinkle on a hefty dollop of confidence, believe that it will work and hey presto ---
No I’m not crazy but I do have a rather well developed “inner child” being one of those incredibly lucky adults who has extended their “youth” by earning a living writing songs and doing funny voices for animation.
So I’m driving back from dropping off some artwork to Rory who’s doing some slide footage for a new song ‘ Dream So Cool’ that I wrote for SOMEGIRL” with Phil Adams; when some graffiti catches my eye on a brick wall near Wood Green tube station.
I was at a superb talk given by Dr. Eva Griffith at the London Metropolitan Museum, about ‘Shakespeare’s Rivals’ a few weeks ago. During it we were allowed to look at the documents of the period, which were sometimes just little pieces of paper, that when pieced together told some of the social history of the time.
