Walking into prison voluntarily to mix with the clientele is probably not most people’s idea of a good time, but as I discovered this week there are those who are positively drawn to doing just that.

I first heard the song ‘Lord Franklin’ when Nick Keir and Tony Ireland played it on a Highlands & Islands tour I did with the folk rock band Finn MacCuill in a show called ‘ Envoys & Exiles’ for Pitlochry Festival Theatre in the early years of my music career.

One thing that nobody can argue with is the fact that the Entertainment Industry is unpredictable. Things happen and they are not always good.

Every so often a great show comes along that shakes you out of your comfort zone and takes you on an unexpected journey back into your past.

I first met Trevor Hills when he was in charge of the Music Shop in Ashford and he had a little studio above it where he created his amazing sounds. The most striking thing about Trevor to me was his total modesty. He could play anything in any key, key-boards, guitar, bass...anything. In fact he was one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever worked with, yet you would have never heard that from him. Trevor was totally unassuming and patient with those less talented than himself and he could come up with a brilliant guitar solo in one take in the studio and leave everyone speechless. The truth was he made us all look good and he didn’t take any credit for himself; he was a real talent.
